• Coral reefs with a wide variety of corals of all shapes and colours.
• Mangroves and sandy beach vegetation.
• Sandy shores with all kinds of crabs, starfishes, sponges, etc.
• Seagrass meadows with many fascinating creatures such as Hairy Crabs, Anemone Shrimps, Swimming Crabs, etc.
• We depart from Marina South Pier. For those driving, there are both cash card and coupon parking at the pier. For those taking public transport, board bus 402 at Marina South MRT station which will take you directly to Marina South Pier.
• Wear covered shoes. No slippers allowed.
• Bring insect repellent.
• Bring poncho
• Bring ziploc bags to waterproof electronics.
• Bring seasick pills if necessary.
• Bring snacks and water.
• The walk can only be conducted at certain low tides, when the intertidal areas and reefs are exposed.
• No, unless you have a permit to conduct research there. For the general public, we can only visit the island with one of the recreational groups. This is because Semakau Landfill is an operational area, with large vehicles moving around and few amenities. Visiting the island with experienced guides can help you have a safe and enjoyable visit.
• Nothing. There are no shops on Semakau. You have to bring your own water, food and anything else that you might need.
