The aquatic bugs and beetles are insects which play an important role in the forest ecosystem, being important for Environment Impact Asnt (EIA) work, including conservation plans and wetlands management.

Biodiversity studies of these groups are being carried out with the active collaboration of Damir Kovac, Herbert Zetttel, Michale Balke and Lars Hendrick. Collections of specimens from Singapore and many parts of Malaysia have been made and are in the process of been sorted, identified and documented. The study will contribute to the inventory of the fauna in the region, awareness of their habitats, ecology and distribution. The best reference collection of aquatic bugs and beetles in the region is therefore being established in the ZRC.
