User's Guide To Using EPIC Online

  1. Click on "Test Drive EPIC online" to get into the programme.

  2. A questionnaire will appear on the left side of the frame on the screen. Proceed to answer the questionnaire by clicking on the option boxes beside each question one by one.

  3. On clicking the option box, a list of options will appear. Select the most suitable answer. If you are in doubt, please leave your answer blank.

  4. It is best to scroll down the screen and answer the questions one by one starting from the top.

  5. If you have difficulties understanding the definitions or the options given, click on the keywords from the questions which are of different colour from the text. A glossary is also available.

  6. To change your answers, just click on the option box and select the answer that you want.

  7. You are able to access the database to clarify your doubts by clicking on "Browse database". It will enable you to browse through the database of the different polychaete families.

  8. To go to any location on your choice, just click on the keywords on the questions or scroll down to the two buttons below. Examples of keywords are shape of prostomium and parapodia.

  9. The "mainmenu" button will enable you to exit from EPIC Online and take you to the main page.

  10. Once you have selected all your option, click the "Find Polychaete Families" button. The programme will then identify the polychaete to the family level.

  11. If you have narrowed down your match to more than one family, proceed to click on the individual families displayed. This will lead to more diagrams to confirm whether your polychaete specimen resemble any of those in the diagram.

  12. A summary of all the web pages of each polychaete family is available in "To Index".
