Family Aphroditidae "sea mice"

Aphroditidae Aphrodita worms are slow moving worms commonly known as "sea mice" which live on soft muddy bottoms. They are very un-worm-like but strange and highly attractive.They plowed through the silt feeding on detritus and microscopic animals for it is jawless and is not an active predator. Its body is covered with scales (elytra) which are hidden behind a dense mat of irridescent hair-like setae. The poisonous spines are arranged laterally and when threatened, they will erect their hollow spine-like setae and inflict injury to the intruder. Despite the dumpy appearance, they are active carnivores hidden in the mud or buried under stones. Their entire dorsal surface is covered by hairlike setae . Species found include Pontogenia indica .
