Selamat Datang ! Hi, I am Yun Ping. Currently, I am working at the
BioInformatics Centre at the National University of Singapore. I graduated from
NUS with a major in zoology in 1998. It was then I developed an an interest in setting up
on-line resources for taxonomic information. It started when I was doing my
honours project
at the Reef Ecology Laboratory under the supervision of Prof Chou Loke Ming.
Nowadays, the world is at your fingertips as information could be a click away if you have access to the internet. There has been much taxonomic work done by various students at the Department of Biological Sciences over the years and these well preserved specimens are deposited at the Raffles Museum of Diversity Research. However, only few has put on-line. |
|
With Information Technology, I realised the potential for these information to be available on-line to allow researchers all over the region to access them via the World Wide Web (WWW) and to compare them with those of theirs. I really appreciate the beauty of the marine invertebrates and their importance. We should be more aware of the pollution factors which could harm the marine resources which we may heavily rely on one day. Hopefully this site will also serve as a useful educational tool to many who are not aware of hidden beauty beneath the oceans. Pollution has been rapidly eliminating many of their habitats. Thus, it is important to adopt some conservation efforts for the protection of these inconspicous animals . |
