19th century Tanjong Katong coral artefacts and Lucia Bongiorni

Archaelogists have been excavating the 19th Century fort at Katong Park in Singapore since September 2004 . In 2005, the project uncovered significant remains of the fort still in situ, and significant quantities of coral and other marine ecofacts.'
Lim Chen Sian, the project archaeologist for the Fort Tanjong Katong Archaeology Project deposited 36 bags of ecofacts, "probably from the late 19th century period when the fort was constructed" at the Raffles Museum of Biodiversity Research under the care of Museum Curator K. L. Yeo on 9th May 2005.

Lucia Bongiorni from Universita' Politecnica delle Marche (Ancona, Italy) will be here between 20 June - 22 July 2005 with the Marine Biology Lab. of the Department of Biological Sciences, NUS. She is here on an EU -funded project on the "Restoration of Indo-pacific corals," and is hosted by Prof Chou Loke Ming of the Marine Biology Lab.

"Goby lady" Helen Larson visits

|Helen Larson, the Curator of Fishes at the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT), Darwin, Australia, will be with us at the department between 20th - 30th June 2005.|
Helen, one of the world's experts on the systematics of goby fishes, is here for a research visit with Zeehan Jaafar who is working on the group in this region.
