Panel on the Environment

N. Sivasothi joined two energy auditors, a hybrid car representative and a Environmental Management postgrad to form a panel to discuss the energy crisis, the concomitant environmental impact and educational measures to cope woth the issue.

The session, on News Radio 93.8FM's Opinion was chaired by Dennis Yim and broadcast on Friday, 15th April 2005.

New Malayan species of torrent loach

Tan, Heok Hui & Peter K. L. Ng, 2005. Homaloptera parclitella, a new species of torrent loach from the Malay Peninsula, with redescription of H. orthogoniata (Teleostei: Balitoridae). Ichthyol. Explor. Freshwaters, 16 (1): 1-12. [pdf, 4.6MB low res scan].

Homaloptera parclitella, new species, from the Malay Peninsula, differs from H. orthogoniata, from Borneo, in having two dark brown saddle blotches on dorsum (vs. three) as well as possessing more lateral, predorsal and caudal peduncle scales. Homaloptera orthogoniata is redescribed from type and fresh material; and a lectotype is designated.

Raffles Museum featured in "Urban Escape"

A new local television programme, "Urban Escape" is being aired on TCS Channel 5 on Tuesdays at 7.30 pm. Showcasing nature, heritage and other secrets of different areas in Singapore, the Raffles Museum was featured in the episode about the western part of Singapore.
